The Indore Smart City Mission is a part of the Smart Cities Mission is an initiative by the Government of India to drive India into the age of advancement through economic growth. This advancement rests on the shoulders of India’s cities, which are the engines of economic growth. These cities are contributing 63% of India’s GDP, even though only 31% of the population lives in these urban areas.

The Mission envisions promoting mixed land use in area-based developments–planning for ‘unplanned areas’ containing a range of compatible activities and land uses that are close to one another in order to make land use more efficient. Flexibility in land use and building bye-laws will be possible thanks to the States.
