NMMC Head Office Opening

The new headquarters of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) off Palm Beach Road, Belapur, was inaugurated by Union Agriculture minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday. The ceremony was graced by prominent political dignitaries such as deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, Thane guardian minister Ganesh Naik, Mayor Sagar Naik, MP Sanjeev Naik, MLA Sandeep Naik and others.

The guardian minister pointed out that the plot, where the headquarters has been constructed, was selected after a search of nearly seven years. A short film detailing the efforts put in by NMMC was shown. "This unique construction is the property of the 12.5 lakh people of Navi Mumbai," said MP Sanjeev Naik.

Sagar Naik detailed out the special features of the headquarters. "It is a special building, both from an architecture point of view and the amenities it is likely to provide," said the mayor. The new headquarters building is spread over an area of 19,995 sq mtr of land, which includes a building of basement + ground + five upper floors with atriums and double heights.

The building has been built in a dome structure with its terrace fitted with anti-reflective tiles, and will have amenities like rainwater harvesting system, and solar panel system.

The building will also have various civic facilities like education, public health, planning and welfare, property tax and local body departments which were earlier located at Belapur, Turbhe, Vashi and Koparkhairne. The NMMC headquarters building has been developed at a cost of Rs 150 crore.
